The annual Ice Fishing Derby is held at Saratoga Lake the
third weekend of January every year. This will be the 30th annual derby.
Prove your skills at
Saratoga Lake in Saratoga, Wyoming while competing for over $6000 in cash
prizes. Hourly cash awards of $100 will be awarded for the largest fish
measured that hour. The big prize money is $2000 cash for first place, $1000
cash for
second and $500 cash for third. Small Fry (under age 14) can enter the contest for a
chance to win the grand prize of a $200 savings bond and a merchandise
package, as well as hourly awards of $20 cash. Door prizes will also be given
each hour. And keep your eyes open for the bounty fish, a fish with a pink tag
behind the dorsal fin—the first bounty fish to be caught during the derby is
worth $500 cash!
Registration is $30 for Adults and $10 for Small Fry (under 14). You may
register at local businesses that sell fishing licenses. You
may also register at the Chamber office (210 W. Elm in the Platte Valley
Community Center) on Friday night until 8 pm or at the lake on Saturday morning starting at 6 am.
The derby hours are 7 am to 5 pm Saturday and 7 am to 2 pm Sunday.
